Dr. Kayla Wright is the Board President for the Youth Workforce Services Program at Para Los Ninos that is based in the city Los Angeles. Dr. Wright accomplished her Masters in Clinical Psychology at Antioch University of Los Angeles and Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership and Change, at Fielding Graduate Institute, in Santa Barbara, CA.

Dr. Wright has worked in the field of social services for over 25 years and is passionate in helping children, families, and youths achieve their life goals. She brings experience in working with the homeless population, LGBT youth, probation, and foster youths. She is knowledgeable in setting, individuals service plans to help clients reach their goals. Dr. Wright has built community partnerships in the city of Los Angeles to increase resources and support services for children, youths and families. She is determined to make a difference in the community and will do what it takes to help those in need.

Mr. Hughey's journey in the non-profit sector began over two decades ago, driven by a deep-seated desire to make a difference in young people and inspire them to live a drug-free, acceptable lifestyle. His early experiences working in underprivileged communities ignited a passion for creating opportunities that break down barriers to success. Mr. Hughey, better known as "Bishop," quickly rose through the ranks, demonstrating an exceptional ability to connect with at-risk, traumatized youth in the juvenile justice system.

As the Executive Director. Mr. Hughey brings a unique blend of lived experience, exceptional counseling skills, strategic vision, and hands-on involvement. Mr. Hughey's leadership style is characterized by collaboration, innovation, and a genuine dedication to uplifting those he serves. Mr. Hughey understands the transformative power of education, mentorship, and community support and tirelessly works to ensure these pillars are at the forefront of The Young Peoples Foundation.

Jason Murphy

Jason Murphy

CFO

As chief financial officer, Dr Jason Murphy guides and provides oversight for the foundations financial functions, including accounting and auditing.

Jason has over 25 years of experience in public service and leadership. He served as a school teacher, school, district and county office administrator.

Jason holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of California Berkeley, a chief business officer certification from the University of Southern California, a certification in business entrepreneurship from Stanford University, a masters in and social sciences and education with a focus and economics from Stanford University and a bachelor's alerts in political Science from the University of California Berkeley.

David Cotinola

David Cotinola

Peer Support Specialist, Supervisor / Vice President

David Cotinola is a certified peer recovery support specialist with 15 years of experience. As a peer mentor with Southern California Crossroads, he led a team of mentors and prevention counselors at school-based sites to address and reduce substance use disorders (SUD) and gang activity. He is a registered counselor with the California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) and a PSS with TYPF. David provides high-quality, harm-reduction, and trauma-informed services to youth in group homes and out-of-home placement facilities.

Shannon Weathersby

Peer Support Specialist

Shannon Weathersby is a certified peer recovery support specialist with a bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences and criminal justice. She has lived experience with treatment and recovery from SUD and a passion for working with youth in the foster care system and out-of-home placement facilities. Shannon leads healing circle discussions, provides art-based services, and substance use prevention services.

Starr Higareda

Starr Higareda

Peer Support Specialist

Starr Higareda is a certified peer recovery support specialist with several years of experience with at-risk youth. She served as a mentor and coach to youth and their families through Southern California Crossroads, in collaboration with the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). Starr has lived experience with a loved one who suffered from SUD and is now in long-term recovery. She specialized in outreach and engagement services, as well as individual mentoring, with a capacity for engaging the most challenging youth.
